Denver to Coppper Canyon over to Baja and back home

Looking for trip advice.

The idea is to leave Denver mid to late April on KLR650's and head to Elpaso, from there head to Copper Canyon and continue South West until we hit water, jump on a ferry and go to Baja. Then proceed up Baja to Cali and make tracks back to Colorado.

200-300 miles per day, more if need be less if need be.
Cheap stays and probably not going to camp.

Does anyone have some must ride routes/ Advice? Time needed?
Looking for Ferry Info as well.

Thank you :scooter:

Hey there,

This is my first post!!!

I'm just now getting back into the two wheeled world and troll through here and other sites for stories tips. I just caught your post and thought you might like to read and get in touch with this guy in TX that did the trip you describe. He's a real character as his posts will show you, but he met a lot of people and has a lot of info.

Good LUCK!!!

Baja & Copper Canyon

Sparkdaddy, I'm planning a similar trip around the same time. How's your planning coming? Do you have a route yet?

Luke

Nothing firm yet. I'm waiting for maps from a local store. They were out. I have a rough idea from looking at other maps. I'm also thinking about ordering the Garmin maps for Mexico. We shall see.
Also just ordered a set of the Caribou Luggage and that should be in next week.

How about you? Do you have a route yet? When are you heading down etc?

I'm working on my plan currently. Here's what the current plan:

- buy a bike and figure out the paperwork in SF area. This will likely be in the next 4 weeks. Store bike with friend.
- Negotiate vacation at work. I'm pretty sure I can get 3 weeks, even though I have 8 banked (booo!)
- prep as much Mexican and Canadian paperwork as possible in advance.
- fly down to San Jose, pack up, and head to Tecate
(the rest is highly speculative, as all of the above doesn't exist, and I haven't done the miles calculation for the route below...)
- down Baja, catch the ferry at La Paz to Topolobampo.
- work up through Chihuahua to crossing at Presidio
- from there to Central Canada can't take much planning :mchappy:

Baja ferries

Sparkdaddy,

I toured coast to coast in Mexico last year and it was great. Entered in Matamoros (real easy temporary import) went to Quatro Cienegas, Parral, Copper canyon and took a ferry Guaymas to Santa Rosalia / Baja.

Here are the links, ferry schedule and rates:

Batopilas is a must, great roads around canyons all the way to the west coast.

Colorado to Copper Canyon

I'm also leaving on the 18th of April for Copper Canyon. We're going thru Douglas, AZ as it takes you thru the Sierra Madre all the way to Creel. We're going into the Urique, Batopilas, and Sinaforosa canyons. I'm riding a KTM 950 Adventure. There will also be a KLR, a Suzuki DS650, and an FE550e Husaberg.
Maybe we'll see you down there.:thumbup1: GrayWolf :Beach:
