We did the lagunas route last year. There are roughly 3 options, one of them is doable for most people.

It is going to be a great adventure! Just ride carefully. The information provided to you (in the link of the previous post) seems to be ok. Try to spend some nice time enjoying the salt flakes! Rainy season is still not at the peak there...

It´s a tuff route but sooooo beautiful.

Don´t miss the second boardercontrol 80km behind the first one
Here are the Koordinates: 22°26'27.2"S 67°48'21.1"W
it´s in the nowhere and you have to turn around after this to come to laguna colorada.

On my page you also can find the Koordinates of two sleeping places during this trip. One at the laguna colorada and another one in vila mar.

At the second day we took the right route around laguna colorada, first we tried the left one, but it was impossible with our motorcycles (honda transalp&bmw gs 1150). so i would recommend the right one ;)

Been reported recently that both aduana and immigration are now at the border, but you will find that out when you get to the border. That report may have been based on unusual circumstances so don't rely on my say-so. By the same logic, blogs more than say, 6 months old should also be regarded as advisory rather than current conditions, especially if it doesn't cover the same months of the year.

hey there, im in santiago right now & ill be in san pedro in several days, and will be crossing into bolivia late jan/ early feb ive done it before about 4 years ago, that time i was on a 180 cc pulsar this time ill be on a 200cc chinese UM! last time I did it in a single day since I didnt have a tent or food (left at 5 AM in san pedro & got to uyuni as it was getting dark) but this time I wanna spend at least 3 days if not longer! if ur interested in going together, even if only part of the way, send me an email (its my user name @ymail.com) or reply here :)
