Crossing the Amazon Delta at Belem
 

I'm doing a bit or research about out clockwise route around South America and so far I understand that crossing the amazon is a pinchpoint. What's the story on the ferry across the delta to Belem from Macapa. Are there heaps of commercial barges or is it all private canoe? Not keen on the heavy bike on a dodgy wooden canoe personally. Or should I take the oppurtunity to take in some jungle riding into the interior.

I'm more excited about the Andes leg of the trip than riding through jungle, but than again, I don't really have clear picture of it.

I usually make decisions like this on the road, is this a similar case?
