Continuing North on Chile registered bike.
 

Hey all,

A couple of my friends and I have moto's currently stored in Lima, Peru. They have Chile registration and that runs out at the end of this month (March 2012). What is necessary for us to get them re-registered and continue our trip north into Ecuador, Colombia and beyond?

Do we need to have the bikes currently registered and insured to get through the borders or is there another way around it?

Have you ridden through any borders without the current registration? So they only require insurance issued in Chile to continue or can you purchase insurance for the country you are entering at the border?

There are threads on you taking the Chile moto back to Chile. You will be fined but this can be reduced.
