colOmbia with a pretty blonde?

my wife and i are in guatemala on our way to panama. dealing with that age old problem, columbia or ecuador. read some entries from guys about how great and friendly the country and the people are....but what if you were taking your wife...an attractive blonde wife at that. any advice from folks that have ACTUALLY recently traveled there would be appreciated.

You have to do it ! Myself and girlfriend went through ColOmbia this time last year and never felt in danger. What all the travellers say about the place is true. You will regret it if you don't !

Don,t worry about the Colombian boys they may stare a little at a real blonde but for the most part they,ve got plenty of local talent to be going on with!!
By the way be sure to pop in to my pub on the way past, you,ll find it mentioned in the Beer in Ecuador thread
Cheers Albert

I had the same dillemma about Colombia but there are now about 6 of us going through about New Year time if that fits with your plans. Including a couple. There will also be plenty of people you should meet as you hit Panama.

I was just in Colombia earlier this month, flew Panama City to Bogota, then Medellin-Cali-Ipiales (border). I only spent 11 days there, but I had no trouble at all, but the military presence on the highways near Medellin is incredibly heavy. Makes you think they must have a reason. I think the risk of street crime is as low or lower than the rest of Latin America, but there was a car bombing in Bogota shortly after I left the country. I was treated extremely well and would go back, you would have to be really unlucky to get caught up in anything bad. Riding a motorcycle on a Latin America highway is a much bigger risk than guerillas in Colombia. That said, I stayed on the main roads brcause the political situation is unsettled. See my blog below for more description.

thanks again and rendezvous in panama city

andy - your reply put me over the edge....few other variables involved - mainly what kind of transportation we can find in panama city - but i´m over the worries. we should hit panama in about 2 weeks....any one there about the same time lets talk about shipments...anyone with current info not up on the shippng page, please let us know.

yes, i worry, so shoot me. but current info from those who have been before us helps a great deal.
