Colombia riding suggestions?
Shipping my T700 to Colombia now, and will arrive Feb 7th for a month or so of riding there, before shipping to Panama and returning home thru C.A. and Mexico to the USA.
Looking for roads to ride (on and off, but nothing gnarly) and places to stay. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks. |
From a fellow motorcyclist who has lived in Colombia for many years I would suggest
Bogota to Armenia (coffee region) Armenia to Medellin (via antioquean pueblos) Medellin to Cartagena (via Mompox) Cartagena to Santa Marta (parque Tayrona) Santa Marta to Bucaramanga Bucaramanga to San Gil/ Barichara San Gil to Bogota All roads on this route are tarmac and in reasonably good condition. I can offer you accomm in Mompox and Cartagena (with secure parking) PM me if you need further info. Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk |

ride Colombia
the book, Jeff & Alans guide to riding in Colombia
Is as good as it gets when you want good info But winging it and having no plan is the only way to go One month is not much time to see Colombia |
Hi Geoff,
I want to get across the Andes in May, before the passes snow over. Where should I cross if I want to get down the Amazon side to have a look at Brazil? |

2) Although there are nevados in 2 of the 3, and snow can fall below them, none of the "passes" is blocked with snow. 3) The Colombian border with Brazil runs from the Brazil - Venezuela - Colombia Tripoint in the east to Leticia in the south. There are no roads to any point along this border. There was a plan to build a road from Mitú to Monfort but only 11 km of this were actually built, and you cannot reach Mitú by road anyway. You can reach Puerto Asís and put the bike on a boat to Leticia then enter Brazil at Tabatinga, however there's no road from there to anywhere else in Brazil, although you can use river transport to continue into Brazil. You can air-freight the bike to Leticia. So, unless you use river or air transport, you cannot "see Brazil" with the bike. You could fly to Leticia on your own, obviously. You may be thinking of the passes between Chile and Argentina, which are blocked by snow sometimes. |

South America is big--much bigger than it looks on a flat-projection map--and even Brazil is huge, with areas of excruciating boredom (at least, that's the way it seemed to me) and other areas that were quite nice, sometimes truly special. Safe journeys! Mark |

Will spend the month between a Bogota, Bucaramanga, Medallin, Cali square mostly. Except only big city I plan on entering besides Bogota to retrieve then reship the bike, is Cali to visit a friend. Here's a link to my blog if anyone's interested. https://new.horizonsunlimited.com/ts...otorcycle-trip |
