Which Central/South American countries are selling the new Tenere?

I don't know for sure, but my guess is: none.
To my knowledge it is not even sold in the US, seems like a model for the European market.

I know for sure that the US and Canada are a no go. Dealers say they want them but my guess is that most are to cowardly to pre-order therefore making the decision easy for Yamaha. Mexico is probably a no go. But surely some nation in Central/South America has the ability to place an order.

Cowardly was a bad choice of words. I live in a small town 60 miles south of Houston Texas. When Yamaha first came out with the TDM850 I fell in love. There was a Yam dealer on 45 right north of downtown, the TDM was in the showroom and I talked to the owner 10 + times. He rode an elephant down on the south side of the Rio Grande and was an avowed dual purpose rider. I wanted the bike but didn't have the change, the reason I talked to the owner 10 times was that the bike sat in his showroom for over a year and a half. I offered him $6000 cash more than once and he turned me down. One day I went by there after not being around for 4 months or so and the bike was gone, he had given up and sold the bike for the same $6000 2 weeks earlier.:(

Years later I grabbed a TDM for $2500 but my point is that American riders don't buy enough of hese bikes to coerce Yamaha into opening the market. The country dealers on the Mexico border, Northwest US and BC would sell some, but all in all not a good market.

But surely a good bike for South America, I ride an XT600 in Costa Rica and even though they are few and far between people will kill for them. I'm going Aug 11th and I'll ask the dealers in San Jose. Although the taxes are murder.

YAmaha Brazil produces the XT660 R, with 15 ltr tank Unfortunately not the Tenere version. The TDM 900 is import, but all prices are about double+ the US prices thanks to very the high duties

There are some rumors that XT 660Z Ténéré will come to Brazil in the end of this year '08!!!

Since they don't sell the xt660 in the states I'm not familiar with the various models. The bike I ride in Costa Rica I rent from Thorsten over at Wild Riders. I've never asked but I think those bikes are 600 tenere's that he had shipped over from Germany. (I have pics if it will help)

What's the difference in the Brazilian model and the tenere and do any South American countries even sell any Tenere's?

the Xt600 Z was made in Brazil.
Not sure about the differences, if I am not mistaken the engine is 100% japanese, maybe some slight adaptions for the poor fuel (containing 24 & alcohol) as higher compression or different timing of the ignition.

I need a bike to keep in Costa Rica. I'm short which excludes the KTM's and KLR's that are available in the states. I don't care much for BMW's so my list is getting short. I'd love to find an XT that I can ride in versus having to fly to Europe and ship.

There's got to be XT's available in the Americas...You'd think this would be easier :-(

Thank you very much marker, I see they sell the XT660R, I was then able to find a comparision of the difference between the XT660R and the XT660Z (Tenere)

EDIT: It seems the biggest difference is tank size and fork length/tube width, more crash protection and the R has a single brake disk versus the Z's double.

Does anybody know a price for the XT660R in Brazil and will they let you off on the tax if you leave the country immediately?
