carnet in south america?
 
as far a i read on these forums so far it seems a carnet is not needed for a alien bike in south american countries... Is this the case? www.andrewmclagan.com

Actually a carnet is required for every country in south america if your name is Andrew McLagan and you do not know how to do a little research before asking for help.
It is completely amazing that right beside Andrew's post was my list of all the Temporary Import Permit statistics for South America....

Hey Andrew,

In response to your question for current conditions and clarification for South America. It's always a good idea to check for information that's as up to date as possible instead of relying on old posts since things do change.

I have not done South America myself but travelled with someone in Central America who had just returned from there (May 2010). He advised me that a carnet is not required for South America. The same applies to Central America. This I can tell you from current (May 2010) personal experience.
