The hostel in Ollague is Atahualpa +56994163024. Very good clean has a restaurant and is well managed. It’s even on Trip Advisor but only listed under restaurants. And they sell petrol

Hi Frush,

I am thinking of doing a similar loop in November 2018. I am curious about your experience. Have you written any report on Horizon? I saw your website (which is awesome) but couldn't find a report on the Andes.

Cheers,
Ludo

Hi Ludo,

My wife wrote a report for an Italian magazine so we have to guarantee the exclusive of photos and text until the end of November, after that we can put the report in our website and on Horizon.
Anyway the road from Calama to Ollague is awesome, in my opinion it is one of the best view in our trip. The volcanic rocks has a mix of different colours (yellow, red, brown) and at the bottom of that volcans you can see two salt lakes: Salar de Ascotàn and Salar de Carcote.

Cheers
Andrea

We found petrol there but was no vacancy so we found a room at hostal El Tambo, clean, room with bathroom and restaurant with basic food but good.

Further, you will run into difficulties entering Bolivia from Peru with a Peruvian plated motorcycle, but no problem traveling from Bolivia to Peru with the same set-up.

The rental company gave us the paperwork needed but nevertheless we spent two hours at the Perù Chile border to convince the Peruvian officers.
No problem at Ollague and Desaguadero borders.
