Im Curious and wondering if anyone has bought a Colombian Plated Moto in any country in SA. other than Colombia
Can you legally have the ownership transferred to your Name while away from Colombia
When I Purchased my Moto in Colombia the previous owner A Lawyer from Medellin gave me his Carnet de Propiedad with his name on it during the purchase at the motor vehicle office .This Card can be looked up on line to see if there are any outstanding fines or taxes not paid
It has to be cleared before you can apply for a new card in your name because the Plate is tied to the property Card and the Plate is Never changed on the moto
It was seamless and the lady said with a bill of sale the transfer was legal for me to ride with his card after RUNT & Soat was finalized,This is Gov Registration and it keeps a record on everything like tickets ,taxes and your history of purchase and sales, Soat is Insurance
I applied for my own property card at the same office that took 10 days to receive
I have been paying tax ever since a couple hundred bucks a year and had a few Fines, these are nasty a hundred dollars minimum and grief like no other situation I have encountered The authorities will impound your bike if you are riding in a city with Pico Placa and the last number on your plate is the number that comes up once a week that you should have it parked
Five days a week is 2 different numbers a day and every 3 months the pattern is changed So be Aware, Google Pico Placa it will tell you what days you can or cannot ride in particular cities
Photo radar is a bitch also I was caught doing 83 in a 80 zone - hundred bucks and all day to get the fine payed because you have to take a safe driver training WTF this is Colombia
Be careful what you wish for
But generally the cops won't harass tourists if your decked out and on a Adventure. They have caught me cause I look like local with a Colombian plate with money
