I'm in Baroloche right this moment and have my Suzuki DR250 for sale (gotta sell it in Chile though). Finishing my trip in less than a fortnight.

Will be selling in Stgo from about 15 Feb onwards if you're not interested.

Can also provide some advice for buying etc in Chile if interested.

Cheers.

Alex.

Belinda & Patrick Peck have a Yamaha Super Tenere. They are in Chile now and have the idea to sell their bike to return home.

Ask me about their email.

hi,
thanks for the message, unforunately, my budget is far under the price you want for the bike...

about not more than 1500usd

mtx 5 Feb 2003 03:44

Hi,
thank you for the advice, but the type of bike I want (enduro) is much cheaper than the model you sell (talking of price of new). I have a small package wich will be perfect on a small bike (XR, XT or DR). I beleve that kind of bikes are perfectly adapted for that kind of trip (Honda XR 600 is ofter used for the Paris-Dakar rally). the onely problem with those models is the size of the tank...
i ll be in Ushuaia on the 10, el Calafate the 14 and el Baroliche on the 16th of february... maby we can meet?

just another question,
did you buy de bike in chile, is it a administration puzzle??? what is necessary to buy a bike in chile?

Hey - Pat and Bin ...... don't be elitist!

It depends what you buy for $1500 - "Dr Suzy" (my DR 250) has been a fantastic bike. 8000km with an oil change, new rear tyre and a light bulb! Preventative maintenance goes a long way ....

Now if you spent $1500 on a 600cc then yes - it would be dodgey!

MTX - I can help if you want to know about buying in Chile (I arrived in Dec 02 at Santiago with a budget of $US2500-3000 and hoping to buy a 600cc and found all the 600's were crap in that range, so for $1650 - including new filters, tubes, rack and welding - I got a very nice and reliable 250cc Dualsport).

You don't HAVE to have 600cc's. I weigh 100kg (+ baggage) and have managed fine. 600cc's is good if you're in Europe, Australia or the US where you're cruising the highways etc, here the only time it affected my itinerary was one leg on Ruta 40 in Patagonia where I couldn't carry enough fuel. The rest of the time, travelled at a slow, comfortable pace and had a ball!

Don't automatically rule out a smaller bike - it's more of a challenge, but then you get to unload it and head off for a ride up forest trails and paths in the mountains that 200Kg of BMW would never get up! Parts are more common too.

See bikes for sale for my listing on Dr Suzy (am now in Mendoza for a week).

Cheers,

Alex.

Oooops,

Just re-read my post and I in no way intended to disparage Pat and Bin's Tenere for sale ..... sorry for any offence.

To clarify .... the 600cc (approx) bikes I saw for sale in santiago last year were poor deals (all from shops). I saw no bikes being privately sold - and certainly none from fellow travellers.

Cheers,

Alex.

I also want to sell my bike (but it is a bit more pricey) but more importantly I am now also in Mendoza - and for a while.

Alex - I sent you an email with my contact details...

mtx 10 Feb 2003 19:21

I m in Montevideo and I ll be in Ushuaia on wednesday...

AJ 28 Feb 2003 08:08

Oooops,

Sorry Ladies and Gents, but I'm back at home in Oz now (already started work - been here four days and already had my first equity claim lodged against me!).

Dr Suzy (my Suzuki DR 250) is on sale by consignment at Procircuit, 9500 Vitacura in Stgo.

I'd rather still be travelling!

Alex.
