Business - buy then sell back a bike

Ages ago I read of a business, I think in Columbia, who sold and rented a selection of bikes which you could tour on then return for an agreed buy back price. I've had a good search but can't find the thread. Does anyone know of a business doing this ? Ta T

There may be other companies that offer this deal. The only company I know is in Peru: MOTORCYCLE PURCHASE & BUY BACK This web page provides all the details.

The company is a 90-minute flight or a 9-hour bus ride from Lima. Flights are ~$70 (USD) one way and the bus is ~$27 (USD.) I have done both and now I take the short flight to maximize my riding time. In 2015, I bought a 250cc Chinese bike from Around the Block and store it with them between trips to Peru.

The mechanics go over the bikes thoroughly as they come back from rentals, replacing tires and expendable parts. The big advantage of a 250cc Chinese bike, both parts and labor are super easy to find and very affordable. If you are planning to ride the amazing back roads and tear around to any extent off the tarmac (and you should), then a 250cc is a great choice. Don't let the marketing of big-bore models fool you. Less is more. Big bikes a great for cruising on mind-numbing highways. I have put in days and days that way and now focus on secondary and non-tarmac roads. :scooter: I would recommend wherever you get a bike, buy a used bike with low mileage and immediately have a good mechanic go over the bike.

As I understand it, there are special steps to secure a document that will allow a Peruvian plated bike to cross into Bolivia from Peru. The other direction is not a problem and entering Bolivia with the same bike from Chile, Brazil or Argentina is not a problem. Only crossing fro Peru to Bolivia. Go figure. Rules change all the time in Latin America, so ask in advance.
