Bringing stuff into Argentina

Hi,
Does anyone have any experience of importing goods into Argentina?
We have left our bike in Mendoza while we had to "pop home" for a little while. I'm thinking of bringing back a set of tyres when we return and am wondering if I'll have any trouble getting them through customs. I have all the import paperwork for the bike with me from when we entered Argentina back in March.
Thanks
Kev

You will have customs issues I think, all spare parts get hammered down there. If you bring them in as luggage though, it may be different :)

I had no problems bringing a used rear hub & spokes, chain & sprockets. But not sure about importing 2 tyres.
Tyres are cheap though, if you go Bolivia or Peru. I paid US$50 for a front MT60 in Sucre, I hear Peru is even cheaper. Paraguay is another option, which is quite a bit cheaper than Argentina or Chile.

It will depend on the trye size in Bolivia and Peru, I could not find anything suitable for a Vstrom, which is the same as a BMW, I mean knobby, not street. The only MT60 I could find was a smaller size and I ended up buying it. Chile was good for tyres but very expensive, they were even imported, beware of the Brazillian tyres as they use a softer compound and wear out super fast!

+1 on the brazilian made tyres. Had a Tourance rear that only lasted about 1/3 of a European Tourance.
MT60 front made in Brazil has been relativel 'OK' though, especially considering the cheap prices in Bolivia.

90/90/21 are easy to find. As are 130/80/17 rear (LOTS of KLRs in Bolivia!). And a friend of mine also found a rear for a KTM 950 (18 inch I think, no?) in Asuncion/Pakistan, without too much hunting around.
