Bolivia Petro?

I've heard the petro in Bolivia is bad. Now I'm hearing that the stations can refuse to sell petro to foreigners. Anyone know if that is just a rumor or is true and happening?

Well it wasent like that, at all, last may when I was there. I dont think this rumor is true.

I heard about the bad petrol as well, but it wasent that bad at all. Just fill up when you get to the big stations and carry some octane booster with you. Remember that the octane booster bottles suc and that they will break eventually (had 3 break in my luggage). Refill into other container.

No worries about Bolivia and remember to spend some days driving around south of the Salar. Beautyfull there.

The fuel in Bolivia is heavily subsidised by the Govt. so I think in some cases it may be true however I haven't yet had it happen, don't forget that tourists spend alot of money in Bolivia so I don't think they'd care about the petrol costs. One problem you may find is that not all stations have petrol available, yesterday I had to visit four before I found some.

If worst came to worst you could just find a trusty bolivian to ride your bike and fill up or syphon it out of someones car.

Had no troubles, and was told that what I got was all unleaded as well. Not sure if it was, but the bike felt like normal, and don't think the cat had any issues. I also heard that the fuel in Peru was shocking so we used the Mr Funnel but found no crap in it at all. So we didn't bother with it after that. So try to go to the best looking servo though.
