BOLIVIA - Bike Storage

Looking to leave a bike in Bolivia from Jan 2010 thru Nov 2010 - 10 months. The bike is currently in BA and we'll be back down in Nov to move it.

- Are there any temporary import issues with leaving the bike?

- Any paperwork issues?

I wrote to Nosiglia Sport to inquire about storage. Anyone have any other resources?

Thanks!
Chris

Any updates?

Chris and Erin,

My wife and I are on our way south on two Suzuki DR'650's and are asking ourselves the same questions you were a few years ago. What solutions/answers did you come across? I saw some other threads with info about storage at Nostiglia and no real hassles with export issues, but I'm curious what you found. Any updates for us?

Thanks for sharing,
Jay and Emily

Bolivia / La Paz bike storage

I can recommend Nosiglia Sport in Zona Sur, located about 15kms south of the city centre. I left my bike there for 7 months in 2014. It cost 5 B's per day, aprox 0.7 usd.

Thanks for the info aussiegringo. Coincidentally, I got a response from Nosiglia shortly before I got your message. They quoted me $1.50/day (USD) for one bike or $2/day for two bikes. Sounds reasonable enough to me.

How did you deal with the temporary vehicle importation permit in Bolivia while your bikes were in storage and after? We're you able to get 7+ months on the permit to begin with or did you have to extend or suspend or something?

Any updates you have on that end would be greatly appreciated as well.

Thanks again...

bonded warehouse

As a fall back, look into bonded warehouse storage. There is a spanish term for it, can't remember at the moment. It is my understand that this type of facility exists in most countries. Effectively storage in a bonded warehouse stops the clock on TVIP paperwork. Search for the service near the airports in La Paz or Santa Cruz. Kindly post to this forum your findings.

The spanish term for bonded warehouse that I couldn't remember is "Almacen Fiscal", at least that's the term used in Costa Rica. YMMV.
