Bolivia - Yellow fever vaccination needed???
 

Hi guys,

going from Chile into Bolivia in May. Do I need Yellow fever vaccination?

Do they check it at the border???

Hi Jens,
We crossed from Chile into Bolivia at Tambo Quenado, the road from Arica, Putre. Nobody asked for our yellow fever certs and as far as I am aware it is not a requirement. We haven't needed our YF certs anywhere we have been in South America .... Arg, Chi, Per, Bol, Ecu or Col.

I know you are taking a group into Bolivia, otherwise I would have asked you if you are mad posting this kind of question here.

Brazil was the only country in SA, that asked me for the YF certificate. I did not have it, and I refused to get the injection on the spot ... but after some talk about Ronaldo and Oliver Kahn (soccer) ... I could continue with customs giving me more problems with the bike .... this was coming from Guyana in 2004.

I seriously doubt that the Bolivians will ask you, but tell the group to have the YF booklet ready to show and the YF vaccination up to date. Just to be on the save side.

thanks so far... There are rumours that you need the vaccination from 2011 on. But you never know what they tell you over here in Europe and then there at the borders it is totally different...

Brasil is the only country is south america that cares about Yellow Fever and mostly they care if you enter Brasil from Bolivia. I have never been asked at any other crossing.

Last I heard for Bolivia, if you enter at a border crossing in the Jungle, you'll need it. If you enter on the Altiplano you don't. This is from last summer.

They didn't ask me for a certificate when I went across from Arica in January. (Crossing over from the top of Chile, over the Altiplano.)

Bolivia does in fact require a yellow fever card. This is how it worked at the Copacabana crossing in September 2010: If you are from the States, they will most likely ask to see it. If youre from anywhere else, they just wave you through. YMMV.

I was required to show my proof of my yellow fever shot when getting my visa, (for US residents). I crossed in Copacabana in Oct. 09.
