Biker Friendly Accomodation in Arequipa and Cusco?
 

Does anybody have any suggestions for 'not too expensive' accomodation in Arequipa and Cusco, preferably camping or with kitchen facilities? We know about the campsite at Sacsayhuaman but would also like to spend some time in the city of Cusco.

By the way, where are all the bikers out there in South America? We've been back on the road for nearly 3 months through North East and North West Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia and now Peru and have only met two! Perhaps we're heading in the wrong direction!

In Arequipa there is Hotel Los Mercedes on Av. Marina. It's a hotel but got camping facilities with showers etc. Can't help you with the price though.

If we're going the wrong way then surely we would meet bikers coming the right way?! Anyway, having just come out of Bolivia after more than 6 weeks, where were you? Probably lost like us!

Accomodation in Cusco.
 

Thanks for the suggestions. We're now in Cusco staying at the Hospedaje Casa Grande in Santa Catalina, just off the Plaza de Armas. They have a big, easily accessed courtyard for the bike and costs S/.25 per person for a double room with private hot shower. Recommended.

Well, since I have GPS, its not possible to be lost. Just momentarily confused - or in my case, a bit longer then that - like about 18 hours to figure out where the road I was on was actually taking me - up to 5143m for one thing - damn high up there and you can see a long way! I waved, but I guess you couldn't see me.

Had to dig into my emergency rations. Worthless maps!

But now I'm found - in Cochabamba presently.

Well I bumped into Hubert from Denmark south of La Paz and he had ridden from Buenos Aires and I was number 1. Poor him, he probably deserved something more attractive!

In Salta Argentina, heading for Mendoza, a warm fire, and a decent fiest in Buenos Aires.

well I can give you an adress for Cusco as well as for arequipa. Both hostals are very near to the plaza des arams and you can park the bike in the hostal, so it is safe.

(Next to Sta. Catalina Convent, which is about 3 quatres from the plaza, just follow Jr. Sta. Catalina about 300 meters then turn right and cross the streeet. You shloud stand in front of the hostal then)

Romms are quite good and youz have no limit of hot water!
Price: 24 Soles/2 Pers.
You will find it in two ways: by foot: follow the small little street called "procuradores" (to enter this road you need to have one big church in your back (called La Compania) and the other side of the plaza and one to your righthand side) and at the end just on the opposite side of the walk you will find that hostal. It has an Internetcaffee included and the will have to open the big wooden door to let you in with thw bike).
By bike: exit the plaza and follow the road called "Plateros" until the first entry on the right hand side, enter that small way (called Tigre) and turn right again at the next corner. then follow around a leftturn and you will find the hostal to your left before a stair.

In case you want to visit Machu Picchu you can leave your bike at the hostal, it is safe. Ask different agncias for prices, and dont accept the first one. We were two and got there for 65Dollars/Pers. includinf Train, hostal in Aguas Calientes for 1 Day, and the entry to Machu Picchu as well as a Taxi driver from cusco to Ollantaytambo who told us averything we needed to know about all the ruinas.

Back transport from Ollantayxtambo by bus (cheap).
