Bike prices in Mid and South America

Hello all,
I'm interested in travelling South America sometimes next year..
Does anyone happen to what are the prices of bikes in middle and south america, where is it cheaper and where is a larger market (more brands of bikes)?
I'm checking out prices of mostly late year models (98-02) of DR650, XR650L, XT600 and KLR650.
I'd be very thankful for any kind of help..

In Salta I met a couple of English blokes who bought year-old XTs with 10,000km on the clock for about USD$3,000 each, in Brazil. They're made there and don't cost much more new. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I heard from others about that problem, you can't exit Argentina with a bike that was bought there. does anyone happen to know the rules in other countries?

I am from USA. I have purchased two KLR 650s near Santiago Chile. New is about same as US. A fair number of used bikes. Contact me and I'll offer name of dealer and prices etc etc. Its easy to get proper paperwork to legally register bike in your name in Chile as well as be able to exit to neighbhoring countries and return to Chile.

The English blokes with the XTs had no problems getting them out of Brazil. To buy a bike (or a car or a house or whatever) requires some kind of 'property-owner' card (sorry, don't remember the exact details), but they didn't have any problem getting those, either.

You are wrong, you can leave Argentina whit the bike but you need to put the papers on your name, contact to Mika Kuhn mika@weltreise-motorrad.de he both a XR200 here for his girlfriend Damaris one and half year before and sold in Colombia or Venezuela (sorry I don’t remember).
I send you a few links to see in advance some announcements of which kind of bikes you can find here and the prices.

I don’t know which is your plan because if you buy a bike in Argentina and you want sell it in other country you will have a lot of trouble. And is the same if you buy it in other country and you want to sell it here. In other words, plan on doing a loop rather than a straight line. Please tell me your plan so maybe I can help you.
Bye for now.
