Bike papers in Peru

Hi I have a bike waiting for me in Peru (on Colombian number plate ) the owner of the bike has left it with a friend of mine with his paperwork for the bike and temp import papers. I know under Normal circumstances that we could go to a lawyer to get something in writing that he has handed the bike over to me or go to a border together and he sign it out of Peru and me sign it into the next country but the owner of the bike has gone home now. So does anyone have any ideas of how I can go about getting the bike out of Peru and ideally back in with the temp import in my name ??
The are about 2 months left on his import so I'm guessing I'm ok to ride it there for now .
Thanks for any ideas

Don't know about Peru, but in some other countries, unless your name is on the TIP as an authorised driver, or you have a power of attorney signed by the owner, you might be regarded as driving the vehicle illegally or even having stolen the vehicle. Names on all documents must match unless you have the overriding PoA. Might be lucky with internal police roadside checks because they may not know better, but unless you choose a holiday weekend when the border post is snowed under, or a slack time and a very bored officer, you might have problems.

If you do get it out, then you still have the same problem getting in to the next country because there are two main documents you have to show - your passport and the title of the vehicle (or the registration papers) and the names will need to match unless you have that properly worded Power of Attorney.

I disagree with the post above, neither the police nor border care much about your docs. Im in Peru now and 3 months into a 6 mo trip in S America on my KLR650. The borders are very lax and as long as you have something with your name and the proper bike numbers it will fly with no problems. Same goes for insurance. PM me if you need insurance paperwork.
