Best way to buy a bike in Santiago

I will tell you my experience buying a bike and traveling around chile and southamerica...
First I thought on doing everything by myself doing a little research, about getting the RUT, best way to find local bike dealers, insurance etc..
but get myself in too many burocracy and waiting, paperwork and a lot of long working time,
So i decided to contact the guys from Suzi santiago, that I've heard about they help travelers in santiago for about 4 years now, having some great reviews and experiences told by their costumers, as soon I contacted them they put me on contact with one of their assistants and she arrange everything for me in a meeting, in one day I get to choose a car from a list after Daniel sit with me and ask my preferences and budget, the second day the RUT paper and a dealer ship visit was already scheduled, so In my 3th day I was already buying an awesome bike, It was AMAZING!

I would recommend this every time!! :) I still have their number is +56 990853305, they always reply on Whatsapp :D

And have you crossed any borders with your chilean bike? Would be great to know as of new rules of beginning of 2017. A a foreigner cannot take a chilean plated vehicle out of Chile even though its his/hers. And not a borrowed vehicle either.

It would be nice to know some of the critical details. What sort of bike did you buy, what was the rough cost to get the bike on the road, what sort of fee did these guys charge you? Is there a web-site with the details?

Suzi Santiago has a nice web site. Google and it comes right up.

What I want to know is how can you drive a bike purchased with their help across borders? Can you at all?

I contacted them a couple of days ago about this very thing and they gave a kind of vague response lacking in any particular details. They did say that 100% of their customers can cross to Argentina and Bolivia.

I would like some first hand info on this if anyone has any. Thanks.

i guess they ask the notary for a "promessa" that the owner comes back with the car to chile ... but tell us the answer if you will get it!!! So we do not guess too much :)

Simple to buy a bike in Chile

I’ve just been through the process of buying a bike but finallly my own bike was shipped from New Zealand. Anyone can buy a bike in Chile. You need a RUT for tax purposes. You also need a Chilean resident to guarantee any tax liabilities you mean get incur. This is the document the dealers staff are signing to get the sale. In case of a private purchase it’s the same document you just have to find someone to guarantee you. I didn’t read the document so not sure what it says about the bike returning to Chile. I suspect nothing or these dealers would not be signing
As for the crossing borders problems it’s a myth. I met plenty of people foreigners included who owned Chilean plated bike that came and went from Chile numerous times with no problem. But the bikes papers must be in your name as per your passport. Now for the SOAT. You can buy online and if you have Chilean plates can cover other Mercosur countries but if foreign plates only covers Chile. Cristian at Cassa Matte is indeed a good source of info
