Best SA Plates to have?

Hey all.

Having done a fair bit of research over the last few months, I have a few options for my multi-trip (approx 6 months on, 6 months off) plans over then next few years, parking the bike in-between with a long tvip or extending tvip. I'll return to work in London between trips.

Route1:
Colombia to Uruguay (Feb 2019 - July 2020)

Route2: Chile, Argentina Patagonia, Uruguay (Nov2020 - May2021)

Route3: Brasil 2021-2022(not looked into this yet).

So I am debating whether to start with Route 1 or Route 2. I have the option to buy a new bike from Honda either in Colombia, Chile or Argentina (XRE300 probably). Or roll the dice and see if any traveler bikes (US / UK plates) that I like are available at the time.

My question is, if I were to buy new, what plates would be the most advantageous to have?

I have often seen mention that Colombian plates are advantageous but have not seen the reasoning. I've read there have been some issues with Chilean plates crossing into Bolivia / Peru. I'm also aware that If I buy a Colombian bike it may be more difficult to sell if I decide to finish my trip in the south or east of the continent. But I guess if I do end up doing the full three trips on the one bike, perhaps this is less of an issue as i'll have had my monies worth.

The prices seem a fair bit cheaper for new bikes in Colombia compared to Chile.

I have contacts for parking and tvip extension if necessary in Peru & Uruguay. I've had difficulties making contact for parking in Bolivia (and the tvip looks like it might be problematic to extend as long as I need it).

Any help appreciated! I'm hoping to get the major things like flights booked soon, and I'm torn between start and end point for the first trip.

Thanks! bier
