Best country to buy Honda Falcon 400 to travel in SA?
 

Hi,

I´m planning to buy a Honda Falcon 400 to travel all over South America. Does anybody know which country is the best in terms of options, price and paperwork to buy the bike. Right now I´m in Brazil and could buy it here or move to Argentina or Chile to buy it there. Any idea where is it easier so that later I can change countries without any problems?

Great choice of bike, I spent a few weeks on a Honda Falcon 400 in Peru a couple of years ago, had not seen these bikes before in Australia, all the best for the trip

Argentina has the issue of owning the bike for 12 months before taking out of the country.

Paraguay is meant to be easy to buy and travel from, don't know f the Falcon is available there.

When I did this in Nov 2012 my research led me to Chile as the best place. Higher prices, but easier to organise. Buy in Santiago, more choice, and the lower prices in the north and south are because of tax breaks which will probably catch you out :-)

Rumored 12 month rule in Argentina???

BruceP, Hi I really need some clarification regarding your quote above. I live in Argentina, I have researched all appropriate regulations regarding "tourists" who, having purchased an Argentine registered motorcycle/vehicle, regarding the removal of the motorcycle/vehicle from Argentina - and no where in the regulations have I encountered the 12 month rule??? Argentine registered motorcycles purchased by "tourists" cannot be taken out of Argentina!

Could you please enlighten me and all others who read here where you found the 12 month regulation? Or, from who you heard that rumor? Or, from what personal experience you speak?

There have been far too many difficulties caused by misinformation regarding TVIPs for foreign registered bikes and the restrictions placed on Argentine registered bikes owned by foreign tourists.

Argentine aduana regulations state that a person entered into Argentina on a tourist visa cannot take his/her Argentine registered motorcycle/vehicle out of Argentina... Please respond, so that future problems can be avoided.

Maybe you csan get in touch with Javier and check to see if it is an old restriction that has been removed ?

Falcons are actually cheaper in Peru than in Brazil where they are made!

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the info. In the end I decided to buy a Yamaha XT 660R in Europe and ship it to Chile. The reason was that it would be cheaper than buying a Falcon or any other similar bike, even the same Yamaha in Brazil or Chile for cheaper (including the shipment via air)! I shall be receiving the bike in a week in Santiago. So, Let´s hope that the custom clearance in Chile is easy.
