Hi,

I am planning a travel to this country at end 2011/beginning 2012 I was looking at several solutions:

Shipping my vehicle from Europe to Ba(costs € 1000 about) but but don't know how much the customs fees are(for clearing customs .i.e.)

Buying a motorcycle in Argentina 150-200 cc. (i.e. Gilera Sahel 200 cost Ar $8.000) possible for a foreigner how much taxes?


Renting a motorcycle maybe most expensive solution

I flew my bike to BA two years ago and the temporay importation fees, including the help of Sandra of Dakar Motors to do the paperwork, was less than $500

Hi,


We have the same plan. We booked a cabin on a boat of Grimaldi lines.
They take both our bikes and us for +/- 3000 euro's . 4 weeks on the boat.
We don't have to put the bikes in containers because it is a RORO ship.
We are leaving the 24 november in Antwerp.
On this moment we are still looking for a insurace for the bikes.
Beside that I'm also looking for a nice place to stay in BA on the first days.
Does anybody know a good guesthouse, hotel or campsite? With a safe place for the bikes also?

Where do you live in Europe? What is your plan, once you are in ZA?

Hey I shiped my bike to BaAs, at start of the year and it cost me about 700 us in argentina.
As for the laws in Argentina if you buy a bike here as a foringer you can not leave the contry. Not so in Chile for example but expencive especialy for somthing deacent
Best way in my opinion is to buy a bike for a trevelar who is finishing his/her trip,
Im selling my bike in Jan in BsAs or Dec somwhere more up north say columbia or peru

What bike??
 

On buying a bike, I would go with the Honda XR250 Tornado. It, and parts for it will be found anywhere south of the US/Mexican border. It will run you about $5,500 in most every country. There are also many out of the way border crossing that are not as strict. The advantage of the Tornado is that people will be more willing to buy your bike if it is a bike that blends into the landscape as they may need to "massage" the paperwork!

Your other option is to buy a $1,200 Chinese copy (the Lifan 200GY or whatever is the latest photocopy of the Honda XL200 are the best bet). Use it up in a few months travel and you can afford to throw it away!
