Anyone done the road from Macapa to Oiapoque in Brasil ?
 

On a map of Brasil, there is a road indicated from Macapa ( East river from Manaus ) to Oiapoque ( Just short of the French Guiana border )

Anyone ever done it ? - is it rideable ?

Can I get from Oiapoque to Cayenne ?
( There is no road indicated )

the only road to/from manaus is the one heading north to venezuela. all traffic in and out of there other than that is by boat/plane. other 'roads' on map are likely to be impassable because bridges haven't been maintained for the past 30 years.

ask locally... i'm sure there are boats everywhere. take a hammock and a good book.

Hi Chris -

I know about the road North from Manaus, I plan to join it from Boa Vista.

The actual route will be :

Manuas to Macapa by boat,
Macapa to Oiapoque via the Ruta 156,
Then somehow into French Guiana , along the coast road through Suriname and Guiana, and then down to Boa Vista where I'll hook up on the road you are talking about.

Thats providing of course I can get the bike on the pedestrian ferry from Suriname to Guiana...

Ps, got the hammock, and a mosquito net, but no idea how I'll use them together...

pps, I'll be taking your advice and starting on the banana boats from Yurimaguas this week..
