Anyone around Puerto Montt??
 

Hola!

I am in Pargua (just over from Chiloe island) with a rear wheel problem. The tube valve is leaking BADLY, so I need a new tube.
The wheel size is: 150/80/17 on a BMW F650GS.
Does anyone know if there are any moto shops in Puerto Montt that may have a suitable tube available?
If there is a tube available, I´ll catch the bus to P. Montt and take the wheel in to be repaired.
The moto is at the Pargua Carabinero station, and I am staying at Hospedaje Chelita nearby.
I would greatly appreciate any information anyone can offer to solve my problem. A response by email as soon as possible would be great, although there is limited internet service here in the village.

........that you're not in El Chalten, as you could borrow my spare heavy duty tube until you got fixed up. Never mind, I'm sure someone will be able to help you out.

You just need a 17" tube for a motorcycle - it will inflate to proper size (never mind the tire specs). You should be able to get one in just about anywhere has motorcycles - not probably necessary to go to Puerto Montt (but if you have to, you can count on getting something). You could even use another size (19") if you have to.

A good gomeria close by might even be able to deal with your leaking valve. (certainly in Bolivia or Peru, they'd be able to fix it - they have their ways, and lots of experience fixing things with nothing).

Mags, your tyre is a 130/17 (if its the same anakaee you got from me)..

Like chuck says, you can use an 18' to get you to a Gomeria or bike shop.

19 is a bit too big really, too much floating about in the tyre but i guess will do in an emergency.

Have you tried to tighten the valve a little ? Maybe its just lose in the thread.

Hi guys.

The very helpful Carabineros who were helping me tried to tighten the valve nut (it was a bit loose), but there was still a LOT of air escaping - not OUT OF the valve (I used spit to check!) but apparently around it. When pumped up, it flattens very quickly - like, I rode the 150metres to the Police station from where we pumped it up, and it was flat again.

On the ferry across to here from Chiloe Island, the bike suddenly fell over onto the righthand side, which ¨MAY¨ possibly have been caused by the valve letting go, as it was flat when I rode off the ferry.

Also, this is a TINY village, and the vulcanisado (sp?) who used to be here, isn´t any longer, but his gear is still here, hence yesterday we could pump the tyre with his compressed air. No other gomeria hereabouts. I might go back over to the Chiloe island, to check if there is one across there. The ferry trip is far shorter than the bus trip into Pte Montt.

Hi BeemerBird, I have an F650 GS and am in Santiago today and headed South tomorrow. I have a spare 17 inch tube that I could give you if you are going to be there for a couple days. Let me know if you want to meet up. I would like to ride together if you are going South to Ushaia.

I´m mobile again (or will be tomorrow when I leave here).

Removed the wheel myself and caught the bus into Puerto Montt, where a ¨neumatico¨fixed it. It had been pinched about 6 inches from the valve, which is why I thought the air was coming from around the valve.

The nice young policeman here (who rides a Kwaka ZZR1100 when it doesn´t have electrical problems) has just helped me put the wheel back in, so I´m out of here tomorrow, heading north again.:clap::clap:
