Alternative routes Peru - help needed

Hi guys myself and Simon are currently in Quito planning our next move. Just looking at a map and there is a Road which is dirt and runs south from Loja to Zumba in Ecuador. I am informed that there is a border crossing here, but not sure on the vehicle importation documtentation. This road then goes south to Jaen, and on to where it joins the 5N to Chachapoyas. Looking now there also appears to be a rougher dirt road which loops around Moyobamba, Tarapoto, Tocache Nuevo and then south to Tingo Maria.
Was wondering if any of you have ever done this road, and if so what state is it in.
I can see a number of real positives.. It is DIRT, and it Avoids Lima.

Hey man! Don't forget Gotca falls that I told you about! If you take the route above you will go right near it. PM Quastdog here on the HUBB. He might have done the route you are asking about. Did you visit Luis and Natty in Medellin?

Hey Guys,

Just got my motor back together in Medellin. Headed out on Friday.

Stop by Turtles Head (English pub), Albert knows allot about riding in Ecuador (and more...) He'll let you know. He's usually in Buster's (restaurant) in the day and Turtle at night.

And stop by Finn McCools (the Irish place in Gringolandia)

The road heads due south and turns into dirt south of Villcabamba. If it is wet it will be very slick near the border and into Peru until just before San Ignacio, Peru. The border crossing process is the same as any other border except some of the people do not really know what they were doing. The Peruvian immigration officer was piss drunk when I was there.

I have many pictures of the ride on my website.

There is also a nice new lodge just across the border on the Peruvian side run by an English lady.
