Air / Sea Freighting from Colombia to Europe

Hi Folks,

Surprisingly, there is no info in 'Trip Transport' on shipping out of Colombia to Europe. Thought I'd take a punt here. Anyone got any info?

James Cargo seem to offer a service, but I'd prefer to send by ship.

Thanks!

Paul

There is a database of rider's shipping experience:

Use this link to get results of ports in and near Colombia for shipment to Europe:

Cartagena

Cartagena is a seafaring town. I don't have port experience to share, other than seeing the stacks of containers and riding around the shipyard before and after sailing on the Stalhratte, but there are certainly options to be had there. Shop around. For the past 6 months I have been working in the shipping business and can tell you that transporting a motorcycle falls into the category of hazardous cargo, due to the gasoline engine and battery. Even if the fuel is drained and the battery is disconnected. Don't be shocked if there is mention a slightly higher fees, it comes with the equipment.

Even though the results are a few year old, a pattern can be drawn from the Shipping a Bike database. Sea transport is a lot cheaper than airlifting. On the back end of a trip it is not as critical to get your motorcycle from point A to point B as quickly, and if it arrives later than planned it won't wreck havoc on your itinerary. Unless your sole mode of transportation back home is on two wheels.

Thanks Peter,

The cost of flying it out is crazy, although I've been told that the cost of shipping from Col to Europe is not that much less. I need to do a bit more research I think - shipping must be cheaper.

Otherwise, I may be riding the Tenere all the way to the States!

That's a bit more reasonable, but still a bit pricey!!
