Advice on heading south through Bolivia this time of year

We are leaving La Paz tomorrow and want to try to connect up with route 40 in Argentina. We have heard that the standard Potosi, Uyuni, Argentina border route is flooded and impassable. Is route 1 south out of Potosi better?
How is the route from Uyuni directly west to Chile this time of year?

Any advice on routes to take during rainy season would be most appreciated.

Thanks,
marshall

Best advice is, get to Uyuni, then make up your mind which way to go :-)

As far as I am aware, the route to Chile from Uyuni is open, it was a week ago when we were there.

We were told that the dirt road is well maintained, due to mining companies using it, but the 400k without gas and the fact we felt it would take us 2-3 days put us off.

But getting to Uyuni should be your 1st priority.

Hey,

I am in La Paz right now, need new tires but i want to ride south on mondays, probably I can join you, because i dont want the strech unyuni to chile alone... (heard its quite hard offroad, panamoto told me that, or ami talking about an other road?)

Cheers

Lorenz
