Accident advice - Peru
 

Hello all,

Unfortunately I´ve had a nasty accident here in Peru, just south of Huaraz - I´m safe and sound, but my bike (Bonnie T100) is economically at least a write off - Triumph Lima are quoting me $4000 and 2 months to get fixed, as the crank case is cracked. The other driver drove off, so a claim isn´t an option.

Does anyone have any advice on getting parts or repairs done cheaply and reliably in Peru?

Hi Ed,

So sorry to hear of your mishap. Pictures and a full description of the damage would be helpful. My first question would be: Is the crankcase cracked badly? Can it be welded?

The previous owner of my bike dumped it and cracked the engine side case. It was repaired with JB Weld. Still holding after 50,000 miles.

What other damage did the bike suffer? When I was run off the road by a careening bus up Cañon del Pato in Peru last year I only suffered a broken headlight, bent handlebars, busted mirror and ripped off number plate. All pretty easy to fix for under 20 bucks after I limped the bike slowly back to the coast and stopped in at a hole-in-the-wall moto shop.

Maybe your damage is more serious. Let us know. And yes, Peruvian drivers rival Guatemalans for their driving prowess. Beeping their horns and driving like maniacs. Once you cross over into Chile you will be amazed at how much more courteous the Chilean drivers are. At least that was my experience.

I am just a day from Huaraz (in HUANUCO) and have a complete moto repair shop. No rider has left yet without EVERYTHING fixed on their bike. We have a B&B too for riders specifically. Nice climate and the cheapest food in Peru!

Ah thanks both. However, I'm now back in the UK deciding how to continue my trip elsewhere.

Were you able to find a good place to keep it?

Unless you officially get a TVIP suspension in Peru, at the end pf your 90 days they will take the bike away from you and sell it at auction!! I lost two (2) KLR650s that way!!
