A few questions

I am leaving mid June heading south from Southern California. I plan on riding until I get tired of the road and then park the bike in a secure area and fly home. Returning when I get the bug again. I have a few questions. I know I could probably look all this up but you folks are the book of knowledge I would rather use.

I will be moving through Mexico as fast as practical (been there many times). What is the most direct route through Mexico, north to south with pay roads? Estimated miles per day possible and estimated total cost for tolls? What is the most direct route without tolls? Estimated miles per day possible ?

I hope to leave my bike in Argentina. What is the maximum time allowed for the bike in Argentina? If you leave, say small trip to Chile can I return to Argentina and have my time start over again? Is there a limit to visits or total time per year?

Albert and KH thanks for the quick replies. HK I love your location description "Buenos Aires,City of good sex, mate and asado!" I have been to BA many times. I spend most of my time in Argentina in Balcarce about 5 hours south of BA.

Sct

For prices of tolls in Mexico check out SCT Traza tu Ruta.If you google it you should find it easily. It is a little difficult to use as you need to know the State the city is in which you plan to leace from but with a little work and knowledge of Spanish you shouldbe able to use it. It will give you the most direct route and the current price of the tolls and approximate driving time If you have trouble finding it or using it I can help you out if you tell me where you plan to cross the border and which border you plan to leave through.I used it on a recent trip to Guatemala and the prices were spot on.

thank you Garrydymond

Thank you for the reply.

Yes I could do that and I'm not to lazy but what I am looking for is more user knowledge based. Something like this (it will take about 5 days using toll roads when possible, another 3 days not using toll roads. The tolls should cost around $300 us.

Not toll free for bikes?

Here in most SA countrys the toll is excluded for bikes! They make you pass by an exit path.
So in Mexico you would pay 300 dollars????Wowww that is a lot.
I don´t know central american countrys...

I took the pacific coast down through mexico and it was a big mistake! Boring, boring and boring.

Take the carribien coast and enjoy instead. Otherwise do the tollroads and avoid all the sleeping policemen.

garrydymond 20 May 2008 21:20

Toll Roads will cost you $2850 pesos it is 3951kms and will take 38.44 hrs to do it. It really depends on what you like but this is what I would do. From Tijuana take the mainland route down to Mazatlan. Then take the Espinazo del Diablo to Durango. Durango to Zacatecas. Zacatecas to SanLuis Potosi, Queretaro, Mexico City. Spend a few days in Mexico City with us we will show you around all the must see sights). Mexico-Puebla-Cordoba-Tuxtla Gutierrez. Stop in Tuxtla to see the Cañon del Sumidero. From Tuxtla on to La Mesilla. It will take you about 10 days- unless you stay 2 weeks in Mex City which some travellers seem to do once they get to my place.
Or go through on the tolls in about 5 days.
Whatever you do have a great trip.
