2 way radios ?
I'll be travelling with two other riders and we want to take 2 way radios with us. Has anyone had or heard of any problems this may cause when crossing borders or being stopped by the police?
Thanks, HughC |
Hi,
I would be carefull with it. Some country's will asume you are a spy or something if youi care this "state of the art" "high tec" stuff. Also some country's might have a clear rule against it. (like europe if it's not "cept" certified) So... eigther build them into the bike or keep them in the bottom of a suitcase when crossing the border. Maybe put some kind of "Daffy Duck" sticker on it to make it look like a toy. This helps a lot. Maarten ------------------ - www.maartensworld.tmfweb.nl - |
I´m not sure of this as far as Latin America is concerned (and I presume even parts of Africa). Two way radios are the most common stuff down here (Bolivia, most "backward" country on the hemisphere... Sorry Bolivians, just joking ;-))
80% of taxis in this town (Santa Cruz de la Sierra or any other town in Bolivia) use two way radios. Even if the brakes don´t work, the radio will!!! I never took a radio accross a border, the only thing I could imagine worrying about is a transmitting licence, but that won´t be a problem with the short range ones. There`s a good thread on this theme in the "communication" forum. Cheers! Tim [This message has been edited by Timido (edited 06 November 2002).] |
