India - Imphal / Tamu / Moreh
 

Hi all,

I crossed the border from Myanmar to India at Tamu / Moreh.
NOTE: I CROSSED WALKING. So no bike involved...

First I got an Indian visa at the embassy in Yangon (67 dollars / 5 working days) and bought a permit at MTT (N 16°46.411' E 096°09.638') . 100 dollars, 10 days, delivery via email so no need to wait in Yangon.

The crossing itself was easy as can be, some waiting, some stamps and BAM! You're in India!

After Moreh there is a highway to Imphal but also a beautiful road through the mountains. I can't read the data from my gps now (no pc) so I can't give you guys the track but a rough guidelines is this.
You follow to main road to Imphal and after the one major military checkpoint - with a lot of little sheds for 'men' and 'woman checking' and one 'Vip toilet' - you get a dirt road on your right hand. It comes back to the tarmac about 20k before Imphal.


Now the news I really wanted to post!

In Imphal is a really nice guy who gets sponsored by the government I think. It's a place to sleep and eat for free! I stayed 4 nights and all meals were free. Also, no other things like praying or such. Just sleeping and eating.

Also, around the corner (sort off.. few minutes) is the local Royal Enfield club with around 200 members. I went and had a chat and rode a few bikes. So if you get to India and need a place to sleep or some help with your bike, go here! They were really helpful and also gave me a free meal;)

Also, he can arrange permits for leaving India into Myanmar. And give other interesting papers for bikers like a fake local license... (I didn't tell you this...)
