Camping in Europe, web info?

Hi fellow bikers!

Does anybody know of any web site that "hub" some general info. about camping places in Western Europe? I have searched this forum and found a lot of interesting places but feel that I lack info about the total overview.
Anyone? Thanks! :mchappy:

Camping info for Europe

There are a lot of mega camping sites, like
Europe Camping Guide - european campsite list, reviews, travel guide, links.
or
Camping

You can find oh so many via Google.

When we travel in Europe, we never took a camping guide -- just looked for the camping tent symbol when it was starting to get time to sleep, or looking on whatever road map we were using for the little camping symbol. The only countries this didn't work -- Bulgaria, Macedonia and Albania (very little camping).

If you can't find camping, look for "Zimmer Frei" ("Room Free") -- sometimes, the person will allow you to camp in the yard.

We've done Scotland, Northern France, Norway and Eastern Europe by motorbike. Here are the travelogues.

My husband has done many additional countries by motorcycle alone. Here's his info.

I do the same just look for some camping when it's getting late or you've reached your planned destination. Most camping in books and some websites are the big family sites with loads of amenities. If you want them that's fair enough but if you just want somewhere to pitch your tent there are plenty along the way. Just remember that there will be lots in touristy places, the coast or mountains and almost none in the industrial areas.

Personally, we've never planned ahead with camping in Western Europe. I find that you can just ride until you're happy to stop and you'll always find a camping sign, and unlike many of those in the guide books which often talk about being 3, 4, or 5 star campsites (with prices to match) and are filled with monster camper vans etc whereas we only tend to need a pitch for the night and access to a shower etc.

I like to use the GPS files from Archies Campings. The campsites are a bit hit and miss but there is almost always one near to where you are, the link is here:
