Hello,

does anyone know if it is possible to cross Myanmar with the motorcycle coming from Thailand towards India? If it is possible, which formalities are there to be considered?

It was possible before Covid, though you needed to engage a travel agent.

Since Covid happened, and then the military coup in Burma, overland travel has become impossible.

I suggest you google for a Burmese travel agent (e.g. Burma Senses) to confirm first-hand that overland travel is impossible.

Indian land borders are also currently closed.

Sorry I just see your post, thank you for that. I have already long time contact with him, and actually the Myanmar regime is discussing how to deal with the overland tourist. I wait daily for an answer from him.

I got news that Myanmar will open for overlanders again on May 25th but so far I am unable to find official confirmation somewhere. Does anyone have more information? Also I hope the price will be a bit lower then [emoji16]

According to postings on Facebook by mr Zawmin Tun who runs a guide company Myanmar is now open for overland travel. But you will if course need a guide and permits as before Covid. You can try to get in touch with Zawmin Tun yourself to confirn this….

I asked also to mr zawmin, and he said the thai border is open, but the indian border not yet, i asked him if he was sure it will not open anymore this year, and his answer was: dont know for sure, but probably it will open before the end of the year, but nothing is official. Information recievde today !!

Yes it was a bit too optimistic from Zawmin Tun there…

I talked to Mr Zahian and made a proposition, as the border is open for trade, put my car on a truck and bring it to Yangoon, and i will fly in, he knever tried but he said, it could be possible, but he needs also permits for it, and they dont give them. Once the border is open, they give the permits alos, but then its not anymore necessary. Other option is ship car from Mumbai to Port Kelang, 3500 euros at the moment. Its hard to decide, should i wait or should i go ??? !!!

I have just been in touch with Mr. Zahian Tun and he has messaged me that the border between Myanmar and India is still closed.

What did you end up doing? I am currently considering shipping my motorcycle to India.

Has anyone had any updates regarding the expected dates when the border may be open?

NO changes at last word, and don't get your hopes up. They're definitely not in a hurry to open up to travellers.
