Malaysia / Thailand to India
 

Hello All,

Planning to leave Australia late March. Hitting a hurdle on planning in 2 areas.
Is it possible to get through Myanmar from Thailand into India currently?

If not any advice on transporting from Thailand or Malaysia into India or transporting direct to India?

Seems not to be the best time for border crossings....

According to mr Zawmin Tun on Facebook who run a travel agency in Myanmar and used to escort travellers through Myanmar the thai-myanmar bordercrossing at Mae Sot-Myawaddy border opend 1/1 this year but the bordercrossing between India and Myanmar is not opend yet. And when this border opens up nobody knows I guess - so the same goes for the possibility to travel through Myanmar I presume…..

I have recently seen travellers shipped from Nepal to Malaysia (India is supposedly a PITA to ship in and out of…) so the opposite way should be ok as well….

Yes looking at 2 options for transport from Oz. One is Kathmandu by Air, the other India by ship. The forwarder is providing costs. I should get some info on Indian customs by Feb as a live bike shipment is on it's way from Oz now, first since covid. Currently they are suggesting 10-12 days clearance time in Mumbai.

I would be more inclined to go with fly to Kathmandu, Nepali customs are so much easier to deal with and I would expect you to get your bike in a day or two.

The forwarder I am speaking with is saying the same thing as you Mark. However, the costs to Kathmandu are "adhoc" and is far more expensive but I should get an idea today.

I shipped my car the other way, from Mumbai to Port Kelang in november, and in deed it is a big PITA !! Bring a lot of patience and a lot of money with you. It took a month to get the car on the ship, the indian customs live in the 17th century. Ounce arrived on Malay side, everything pretty straight forward, Bernd from Dietrich logistics arrange everything. Total cost for all, it was a full load 20 foot container (big lexus SUV) was about 4100 US dollar. All together i was without car about 6 weeks, i just flew to Phnom PENH and took a nice holiday overthere while waiting.
My car is now swimming back from Sihanoukville to Antwerp, whats even cheaper then India: 3100 US$ !! 3 days at Sihanoukville port, then 6 weeks on the see, and Antwerp dont now yet, it arrives saturday normally as planned (i can follow the ship online, and its running perfect on time).
