India-Myanmar-Thailand?
Has anyone got any up to date info about overlanding from India to Thailand? Can't get much info other than as of 2023 it was impossible
If this is the case then how to bypass, ship or fly over Myanmar with a bike? TIA |
Still impossible as most border regions of Myanmar are not under government control. So pretty much zero chance of things changing until one side controls an end-to-end swath of the country, and unlikely for several years after that happens IMO.

Yeah, confirms what I thought. I suppose the sensible option would be to fly the bike to somewhere like KL and continue from there.
|
Or keep it an overland trip and go through China, from Nepal, Pakistan or Kyrgyzstan.
|
That might take too much time, but I would be interested in hearing how that's done.

So here's a thing: No go through Myanmar, so join a tour from Kathmandu to Laos via China. Need a Chinese licence, but at 61 I will be too old - the limit seems to be 59. Sheesh. Guess the bike is going by air.doh

reggie3cl,
There was a discussion here recently. https://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hu...n-china-105386 I've been trying to get credible info on the age limit for the provisional driving licenses for foreigners but can't find any. I'm 58 so not much time left to tour China and the only place I found the bike rental was way too expensive. |
We have contacted a couple of companies that do tours - Kathmandu to Laos, that sort of thing, will post here if we get a reply, but it looks like we may have to fly the bike to KL to continue to Australia.
|
OK, here we go: the regulations have changed.
Thank you for contacting us, this is Merry at Drive China Tours, we are a travel company with more than 10 years of experience in organizing overland tours in China and Tibet. Yes, we have scheduled tours for this route every month, we will keep you posted once we fix the tours for 2026. Regarding the age of the driver, no worries, China has officially raised the age limit from 59 to 69 years old for riding a motorcycle over 50cc, and the regulation came into effect on January 1st, 2025. |
That's great info!
So China is still possible with the age now set a 69. |
