Dili to Darwin shipping late september/early october - sharing a container

Hi everybody

Currently in eastern Java. Heading to Bali in a day or two. Plan to be in East Timor late september, lets say 20th or thereabout. But flexible of course.
And then prepare the shipping over to Darwin.

Anyone in the same situation and time frame that want to share a container Dili to Darwin to get the costs down?

Have just sent a mail to the shipping company by the way.

But any advices about this shipping is also very velcome..... :-)

Probably far too late but I'll mention anyway - I'm looking to do the same in late Nov/early December if that works for you or anyone else, on the off chance?

Cheers

Be prepared for a long wait (3- 8 weeks) and about $1300 AUD for the pleasure, the consumption of beer becomes necessary!

Get in touch when you have a date for arrival in Darwin, I may be able to accommodate, Cheers Dave.

I am in Kupang right now and will ride over to Dili tomorrow. The date the shipping company gave me was the 29th and then they came back and said the 26th or 27th although they also said the ship might not be able to berth???

Anyway - I will try to get the bike ready for the 26-27th shipping and get it over asap. I dont want to pick up the bike in Darwin during their wet season. Its not supposed to be good time of year to ride over there.
So Ed - you must be prepared for some wet conditions.... ;-)

Thanks so much for kind offer Dave. I will probably pop up to my friends in Thailand and wait for the bike to arrive in Darwin. But I will certainly let you know when its time to pick up the bike.

It usually wont start raining hard till late December so you've got time, it will be hot and humid though. Having said that the world weather and dare I mention global warming, anything could happen!

Probably see you guys in November some time!

Bike went into the container in Dili monday morning 29/9 and the ship sailed later that day. According to the shipping agent it will take at least 16 days until it reach Darwin cause its going to Singapore first. And then there will be a few days in Darwin for unloading and paperwork - so I expect to be in Darwin around the 20th october.

Meanwhile I am relaxing in Thailand.....:Beach:

Got lucky as I shared a container with a huge generator or something like that - so got the costs shared. Still approx 850 USD. And I had to buy straps who costed 20 USD a piece - 4 pieces.

I used a shipping forwarder called bollore/sdv logistics. They had better pricing than anl and I'm not sure but they may use the other shipping line as well. There's a Chinese company that runs the reverse direction - three days in instead of three weeks wait. I didn't go with them because I went from Darwin to dili. I don't know much about them to be honest. Pm me if you want contact details for bollore

anybody interested to share a container from Dili to Darwin at the end of November or beginning of December?

I'm in Malaysia now, heading to Indonesia right after the MotoGP is over :)

I changed plans. will ship from Dili in East Timor to Darwin at the end of January.
if anybody is still interested, let me know.

here some information about my research of the shipment possibilities:

ANL:
they bought Perkins, which was famous for it's delays and unprofessionalism. it seems nothing has changed. they say that they will ship every 10 days. but only if the container is booked for more than 10cubics (a bike is about 2.5cubic?). so it may stay in Dili for weeks...
the ship will take about 17 days to Darwin, as it goes from Dili to Singapore first.
their second ship is currently broken, so the schedule of every 10 days is impossible.

but they are the cheapest at about 900$ with additional 300$ fees and tolls (which they are not able to declare exactly). you don't need to pay the whole container, just the cubics.
at least I finally found a contact there who is answering the mails promptly:
Brendan Bilston bbilston@anltl.tl

tollgroup:
they ship with ANL. so they will be also unreliable in terms of the schedule.
it's more than three weeks now and I still don't have a quote yet. every week I get an email 'we have the quote soon'.

bollore.com:
most professional contact until now. the ship only takes 32h to get to Darwin.
but also the most expensive one, as I need to pay the whole container: 2800$
MONTEIRO Roberto <roberto.monteiro@bollore.com>

psedili.com:
1200$ for the container and about 700$ fees
possibility to ship from Java, as the ship is going Dili-Java-Darwin.
slowest ship, will take about 24 days.
