Where to tour in South America?
Bucket list alert!
My husband has said his bucket list is to ride on every continent* - we've already done Oz, lots of Europe, Canada and lots of Africa and got Asia planned for January ... so only South America is left! South America is a BIG continent.... he's got loads of experience, races a scrambler for fun, lots of off road stuff and different bikes - but he only wants to do 7 days - and he doesn't want to go on a Royal Enfield! So suggestions please on :D - Which country? - Finding shorter tours (most seem to be 17 days plus) - Any recommendations on tour companies with shorter tours (I do ride - and I like to pillion - but it's my chance to kick back and rest, so I'll be on the beach, or in a vineyard or similar (depending on where we end up!) *he's given me a 'by' for Antartica.... there might be roads but.... |
Just making sure I got this right: you're looking for a guided tour somewhere in South America which includes bikes but doesn't exceed 7 days?
Do you have any other parameters? Like...on-road or off, like or don't like indigenous culture, urban vs. rural, scenery (mountains/desert/seacoast). What kind of tour do you imagine--private or group, long days in the saddle or half-days free to explore on your own? Do you want suggestions about where to find good riding--whatever that means to you--or is that irrelevant? And what's this about Antarctica? Hope some clarity about what you're asking for will help you get the answers you want. Mark |
Ecuador Freedom Rental might be a good place to start. They do self-guided tours and have a bunch of different options to fit your timeline.
https://freedombikerental.com/en/ Peru Motors has a similar business, bike rental with self-guided tours. https://perumotors.com/rental-motorcycles-peru/ Those are the two that come to mind, though there are many others, available in just about any country in South America. I strongly suggest taking more than a week. There is so much to see and the riding is world class. |
Hi Mark,
I think he's quite happy in a group, doesn't need to be private..... on road or off road - either way, he's more than happy but would prefer good biking roads (e.g. he's not a fan of long straight roads).... would prefer more rural to urban, more mountains or coasts to deserts... And he doesn't mind some long days in the saddle - but does want to get off and see something of the country he's going through! Prefer not have to carry luggage if possible.... (apologies for the delay, had some computer problems!) |
Have a look at northern Argentina too — Salta and Jujuy regions are stunning and way less touristy than Patagonia. A few local operators run custom 5–7 day loops through desert, mountains, and even salt flats. Great roads for him, and Malbec + spa days for you sounds like a fair trade!
