for the well travelled rider?! please Critique
Hi guys.
So i have started making a spreadsheet of my planned trip next year for my touring tour (28 days riding then flying back to work for 28 days (please dont try and talk me out of it, some have already tried on here from previous threads. this is my situation at the moment and im going to make it work.)) So my question is to the well traveled, how does this route look to you. please add in your suggestions and this is the chance to be harsh! Im hoping for 28 days vlad - Ulaanbaatar. then 28 days Ulaanbataar - moscow then 14 days Moscow - Copenhagen. Great trip
I've ridden the eastern part of the trip, and so can comment on that and...
It looks fine to me Dom, you'll have a great time. Just make sure you're riding through Siberia at the right time of year to avoid the intense cold they have there. How are you getting your bike to Vlad?? Keep in mind that the Customs guys there can take a VERY long time to clear a bike - ask others perhaps to see what their experience has been. We all have our own ways and means of travelling, and with 28 days at a time, I think you'll have a ball:clap: Ride safe and remember to write up about your trip. |
Hi Tif!
We're looking at starting the ride through around mid-late June. At this point the bike should arrive on a ferry from South Korea, im hoping that contractor in Vlad will take care of the paper work for vlad importation? what are the roads like for the route proposed? would you suggest any slight diversions? if we were to rush for emergency reasons do you think we could half the times through the points(just in case) Dom |

I assume that you are not resident in Europe thus rushing any of it would be a bad idea. You'll see a lot less at speed on a motorway than at slower speeds on back roads... motorways are all very similar. I do regret the miles I've done on motorways... needs must but. |
I think it will be hard to take as long as 28 days from Vlad to UB. Its all asphalt apart from some roadworks happening between Vlad and Khabarovsk.
Even 12 days will be slow for that section. Quote:

I would probably drop out Tallinn and go from St.Petersburg to Lappeenranta, Helsinki, Turku and from there up north to Finland. Reason: Border crosssing between Russia and Estonia in Narva is not very fast. My friend spend there 4 hours a month ago. Then ofcourse if you definately wish to see Tallinn its another thing. Tallinn is nice city, i have spend lot of time there because of work. In Finland and this is for pretty much all people considering going to North Cape: DONT USE MAIN HIGHWAY NUMBER 4 IF YOU GO TO NORTH CAPE. IT IS BORING AS HELL Just week ago as i was sending off Kazakstan friend to Helsinki i saw two UK bikers going to north and they said they use road 4. I adviced to them and always advice people (and pretty much all people who drive around Finland) to use smaller routes going eastern Finland or then small road going just coast of Finland to north. You see much more lakes, beutifull scenary and smaller villages. You can drive from Helsinki to Tornio even using smaller roads in two days and that includes lot of stops and not full driving days. I hope this helped. Feel free to ask anything you wish to hear. |
