Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi ?

Hi,
Thinking of doing this in Jan 2018.
If someone could recommend a good route and places to stay that would be awesome. Thinking of buying a chonda off the locals and selling it on at the end.
Kind regards,
Dave.

Hi Dave,

We did it from Hanoi to Saigon (HCMC)

Then in Saigon, put the bikes on a freight train.
We stayed in Saigon for a few more days, then we got passenger train back to Hanoi.
We collected the bikes next day, and took them backl to the rental office.

Our bikes, 110cc Honda's cost us 35.00gbp for the month.
Petrol was a 1.00 gbp a day
Accommodation was 7 - 10 gbp per night
No need book any hotels, just start asking at local hotels, there is always availability.

Any Q's

Let me know

Nam in July 2017

Hi,
I did Vietnam and Cambodia by bike in July.
Started in Ho Chi and went south to Phu Quoc, up into Cambodia and did Angkor Wat. Then back across to Ho Chi and north to Hanoi.
As above, cant recommend the vietnam coracle high enough. That guy takes away the need to trip plan.
I cut in and out away from the sea as often as possible.
Life's a beach Backpackers is one of my favourite hostels in the whole world.
The south is ace, but the north of Vietnam is one of the most beautiful places Ive ever been, including Iceland.

Hey Dave,
I also did that trip a few months ago, getting a bike is pretty straight foreward in Ho Chi Minh, a lot of bikes change hand over there. (we went with Style Motorbikes though, we bought brand new bikes and they take em back for 75-80% of the price in Hanoi, total 200 bucks for a month..) The beaten up Honda's have more character, I drove one of those in Cambodja, but had to maintain it more often.
Routewise, we obviously avoid highways, and we got a cell phone card so we had data to navigate (8 bucks or so for plenty of gb's).
The best route we had was from Da Lat to Na Thrang. 150 km's of winding curves and no traffic at all.
Easy Tiger hostel in Phong Na was a great place to stay, for some reason all motorcyclist who do south to north and north to south, stay there, very cool to see over a 100 Honda win's on a parking lot. It's a big place, but very well managed, amazing routes in that area also!

Have fun mate!
