US to Puerto Rico

First post and not so new, newbie.

Wife and I are talking about taking the bike from US to Puerto Rico for a week or two.

Any thought, ideas or suggestions?

Brand new to this but thinking this might be a tune up for Europe in 2016.
We have a ΒΌ million plus miles in the states and Canada and understand Puerto Rico is not border crossing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Jim

I'm from Puerto Rico. I do not recommend riding there unless it's strictly off-road. If that's the case then you're better off renting. The traffic gets congested and drivers have no respect for traffic laws. The roads are horrible and potholes are a huge problem all throughout the island. The way the roads are constructed make them a huge risk for accidents in certain areas. Motorcycles on roads are not very common. Most people just ride on the weekends to show off. It's a shame that it's not more bike friendly since there is plenty to see and do but that's how it goes down there. If you end up doing it anyway, down stray too far from your ride, especially if it's a quality bike.
