Urals to UK

Hi....
I'm pondering a trip from the Ural mountains back to the UK next year. Has anybody got advice/experience of riding in Russia, specifically between the Urals and the Russian/Ukraine border?
Thanks....

I rode from the Kazakstan border down through the Volga region. It's fairly straight forward but don't do it in December like I did, Russia gets a little bit cold in winter. You will pay a lot less for hotels along the highway than in the city. Good luck and have a vodka for me. Nostorovaya!

Hi, I've just gone from the Ukraine through Russia, across the Urals to Chelyabinsk and into Kazakhstan. And I must say even though I had a great month in Russia because of the people if the Urals is a specific goal that you wish to see Wales has more impressive countryside! and I was left a bit cold with the Russian countryside. Still if your going I can give you contacts to bike clubs to stay with in Ulyanovsk, Dimitrovsgrad, Samara, Ufa and Chelyabinsk.
Police hassles were few, most police wanted a look at the bike but some tried for money. I was made to buy 2 months insurance at the border for 1250 Rubles even though my visa was just a month.

Cheers Neil.

Thanks for that Neil. I'm glad you had a good month, though I am a little gutted that the scenery isn't up to scratch.

I would however appreciate some contact details, as I actually plan to try and take an Ural back from the factory on the eastern side of the Urals, knocking off the furthest easterly point of mainland Europe. People to hitch up with on the way would be a pleasing break to the sound creaking of the sidecar.

Mark.
