I've kept working on my site to help out people who're starting the process of planning their overland trip. Here it is:

Overland Aventure

The major addition is a routing feature that will try and find a route between two cities, around major no-go regions and taking in account visas and carnet de passage requirements. Check it out here :

Overlanding: Routes

It uses Openstreetmap data so it's no better than what you find there. What's more interesting is that it will show you the border crossings and give you a break-down of carnet de passage requirements and visas to purchase (unfortunately for the time being visa information is for French citizens, as it varies a lot between nationalities).

I hope it can be useful, especially for a first rough planning stage. There's no way (yet) to add input from you guys, as I'd like to see it there's some traction and interest for it.

I'd appreciate any comment you may have as this is still a bit rough around the edge, but I'll keep improving on it in my free time.

Drag Route
 

Just took a quick look at the Route planner, nice. I like the way it indicates the different road types.
It would be good to be able to drag the route to an alternative road where more than one route is indicated.

Thanks so much for your hard work, we are just at the beginning of our planning stage and I'm sure we'll use the information you've provided..... its a big help to us just starting out.:thumbup1:
