Uk to Thailand and beyond (maybe)

Hi Guys,
My first post! Next year I am planning to do a trip from the UK and would like to end up in Thailand to do some serious diving then back again or maybe onwards to Oz. I would like to take the Europe - Turkey - Iran - Pakistan - India - Nepal kinda directions, but how would you get from India to Thailand? Been reading up on here and it seems that China and Myanmar are pretty much no go. So whats the best options please?
Cheers,

Andy

As you´ve probably noticed, if you´ve read these forums, many travellers are wondering the same.

Myanmar is practically closed for foreign vehicles, you´d need a miracle of biblical proportions to get in, and still an even bigger one to be allowed to cross the entire country.

China seems to be possible (somehow), but not easy, and NOT cheap, I believe you should budget several thousand euros just for the ´official´ costs. And you´d need to start arranging it months in advance by contacting a tour operator in China. Going between India&Thailand, you´re looking at crossing a considerable length of this huge country, so the costs are likely to pile up. Your options from South Asia are the Karakoram Highway from Pakistan, or the Friendship Highway from Nepal to Tibet... both of which cross some of the highest mountain regions on the planet, so timing would be important, too.

That leaves the Bay of Bengal, and at least 1,5 years ago there were no ferries between India and Thailand/Malaysia/Singapore/Indonesia. There may be some big cargo ship with a few passenger cabins, but very expensive. Freighting the bike (by air or by sea) and flying yourself is possible.

Hi Andy,

I think the best way is to fly from India or Nepal to Thailand, but perhaps some people know it better.

If you are interested you can watch movies and read storys about our travel from Holland to Nepal on Going East - Home including crating and shipping our motor from Kathmandu to Holland.

Also you can watch movies and (soon) reading storys about our motortravel in Thailand and other countrys on Life Is Joy - Home

Enjoy!

Hi Andy,

I've got a similar problem (as most of people as we see now). I was initially thinking to take the northern route to India: Ukraine - Russia - Kazakhstan - China - India :) Now after reading the threads I think Iran and Pakistan is the only way to go and then maybe ship the bike to Thailand or somewhere.

I always wanted to see the Chinese WALL but if it's that expensive to get into the country then maybe a different trip or something :(

Anyway I'll see you in Ripley on the 18th June!

Stay safe!
Andy
