uk to iran border and back

hello peoples

i'm considering a RTW next year, and by way of a 'test', i'm planning to ride from London to Turkey and up to the Iranian border and back. Question is, will i do it in two weeks? Or will my boss be sacking me sooner than i'd hoped!!

what's the total distance you're hoping to cover? i'm interested in travelling distance maybe next year - i'd be really interested to hear how you get on and what you thought of the trip.

good luck!

hi zenbiker,

i hadn't got down to the nitty-gritty of mileages just yet, only routes, but i've just realised that i might need a carnet to get into turkey which is a right pain in the arse. anyway, i'm still going to have a crack so i'll report back and let you know how i get on.

thanks for the interest...

You don't need a carnet to go in Turkey. At least, we italian don't, but I think it's the same for all europeans.
About your plan, maybe you can travel to the Iran border and back in two weeks, but you loose many many wonderful things to see.
We did it with our bikes in 2001 (and carried on to the Caspian Sea in Iran) in one month, leaving from Cesme (ferry from Italy), and it was the minimum time to see something.

thanks for the information pietro.

your right about it being a tight schedule. it was supposed to be a test-run for a really big trip next year, maybe i will slow down a little....

Hi

You might be able to save some time if you ride through Austria/Hungary/Romania/Bulgaria and into Turkey. I think I clocked up about 2300 miles to Istanbul from Liverpool that way. The roads were pretty good now thanks to lots of ec money.

Cheers
