Turkey to S-E Asia, thinking about an appropriate 6 month timeframe
Hiya everyone,
I made a "pre-" travel this year (2014) from Switzerland to Turkey (Izmir), one way and back home mainly on Ferry. Next year (2015) will be the continuation on, this time, a 6 month duration, starting back from Izmir and heading one way towards S-E Asia, crossing Iran, Pakistan, India, Burma, and S-E Asian countries, then send the bike and myself back home. My timeframe estimation would be from Sept 2015 to February 2016, As I believe that I would keep mostly away of climate extrems along the way (aka avoid long periods of temperature below 10 degrees celsius). But I'm still not sure about it, and I need to definitely communicate to my boss the timeframe I shall away. This is the part I require some input from you. I visited various world climate websites, which gave me precious information, but nothing is more valuable as from your own experience. The point is not to totally avoid low temperatures, but long periods of them. Any inputs will be greatly appreciated Cheers |
Me too!
I hope someone who has done the trip replies |
Your suggested timeframe will be fine, I would say start in early September apart from that it will be the best season to make the trip.

Hi Arkean
We have pretty much the same trip planned. We are very worried about the situation in Pakistan. What are your thought on it? Would you want to meet up for a coffee or beer sometime to talk about it? I am located in Zurich. We have got some guides organised for Myanmar. Cheers |

I do share those worries as well about Pakistan. There is a certain amount of fear which I have to cope with, but, nevertheless, it shan't be enough in order to avoid this beautiful part of the trip. There is imho a discrepanzy between what our media shows us, and what really the situation is. I live in Bern. I would meet you anytime, either in Zürich or Bern. I'll pm you me contact details. Cheers Arkean |
Hi Arkean and maxpowers,
I am currently planning my trip to india (possibly beyond) from austria leaving August 2015. So pretty similar to your plan, Arkean. I am trying to find recent reports about the security situation in the Balochistan area, do you have any news on this? Do you have a plan B if Balochistan turns out to be too dangerous by the time you get there? I was thinking about a ferry to mumbai via UAE, but I'm unsure if it's possible.... Thanks for any information! cheers |
Atta.
recently heard of a guy who caught ferry from Sri Lanka to Oman. Fromthere you can go to UAE. heard this second hand so not sure of exactly what ferry be used. could have been a ship. |
we are in SE Asia now having started in Australia. climate in Thailand is awesome at present. You need to not only check temps but also wet seasons in diferent areas. Are you going to Indonesia or finishing in Malaysia or Thailand. Also check how long visas are for. they are logistical puzzles in SE Asia.

thailand permit?
Hi OVERLAND15
noticed you are in thailand at moment. we're planning to be there later this year. I'd be very interested to know what time frame your vehicle permits are for ? (not just Thailand actually but any of the south east asia countries) thanks Phil. |
Hi Phil
Sorry didnt get notification of your question. just noticed it. we have a 12 month carnet. The only country so far with time limits is Thailand. You need a temp import/expory paper. You get a 30 day permit, but that is extendable at any customs- no hassles and free. We extended twice. Then left for Laos. No other restrictions on time frames in any other countries so far-Timor L, Indonesia, Malaysia and Laos. They all used the carnet. |
