Kiwijim,

I would go

Turkey
Syria, (palmira, damascus, krac de chevalliers)
Jordan, (amman, dead sea dive, mount nebo, petra, aquaba)
Skip Israel by taking the ferry to Egypt
If you want to go through Israel make sure they don't stamp your passport over there. (they can give you a stamp on a piece of paper, toss it away when you leave Israel)
Enjoy Sinai Desert, visit Dahab (Scuba Dive Paradise. Climb mount Sinai at night and set the alarmclock for the most beautifull sunset ever. Visit St Catherina Monastiry.
Take the ferry over the Suez Canal. Look out for your stuff (and health) in Cairo Go to Luxor and Aswan (take the train over there, saves you time and a hotelbill in case of the nighttrain)
Go back same way, maybe on a slightly different route. If you insist on going to the promised land, drive through de Negev Desert from Eilat to Tel Aviv. Sleep over in Mitzpeh Ramon. From there to Tel Aviv (beach babies allaround!!!) and don't forget to go to Jerusalem. From there you can cross the Allenby Bridge to Jordan.(after visiting Jericho offcourse) Toss the holyland stamp on the paper away when entering Jordan, don't bring holy, jewish stuff with you. The Syrian and/or Lebanese won't appreciate (understatement!) it. They probably won't let you in country if they think you've been in Israel. If they know for a fact they won't let you in at all and your stuck in de ME. So don't bring souvenirs.

Have fun, I served the Army in the ME for over 6 months and spent al lot of holidays over there.
I'm going, first timer, on two wheels in april/mai 2006

Let me know what your plans are........

In Syria I really suggest also the city of Aleppo, probably the most beautiful arabic city I have visited.

As far as I know, avoid Israel, even if they give to you the visa in a separate paper. In fact it's enough to have on the passport the stamp from any Jordan or Egyptian custom to Israel to be prevented to go through Syria, Lybia and many other countries. We took the ferry Nuweiba-Aqaba and it wasn't bad.

In Egypt, I loved Alexandria (an interesting mix of colonial, modern and old city, with an impressive seafront) and the Delta of Nile, good for a dual sport motorcycle.

Have a nice trip
Pietro
