Turkey to East Africa - Ferry? Overland?

Hi All,

Can anyone help me with their experiences getting from Turkey to Egypt?

Ideally I would like to do this entirely overland but AFAIK the 100k through Syria is still not an option (?)

I would like to do as much overland as possible so perhaps there is a way to get a ferry from Turkey to Lebanon or Israel, possibly via Cyprus?

I have been told also that an Israeli stamp in your passport is a no-no for entering Sudan but also that sometimes you can get the Israelis to not stamp?

I have contacted Grimaldi and Salamis shipping companies but perhaps someone can recommend others?

Thanks for any thoughts!

Guy

Dear Goo
Syria is not option. There is still wat going on with multiple sides.
Are there any ferries fro Cyprus to Egypt?
You can take a ferry from MErsin I believe to Northern Cyprus. Cross the border to south part and may be there are ferries or something to Egypt.
Hope it helps

Thanks for the comments nomadb.

There is indeed a ferry from Turkey to Cyprus

Akgünler Denizcilik – |*Sürat, Güven Konfor

unfortunately their route to Tripoli isn't running it seems.

So far I am drawing a complete blank on any routes to Egypt, whether land or sea, going via Israel or direct. I would happily go across North Africa but crossing Libya doesn't seem viable at the moment..

If anybody has better info I would love to hear!

Go to a marina somewhere along the Turkish coast and find a yacht owner who will take you. You can get your bike on board and choose your port.
It is not so far.

Thanks for that - I would love to hear from anyone who has done this...?

The Turkey to Lebanon Ferry is in fact running:

Does anybody know if it's feasible to travel overland from Lebanon into Israel?

Also, the issues involved going from Israel into Egypt?

How easy is it to avoid Israeli stamps in your passport? (I want to enter Sudan)

Tripoli is LIBYA = big trouble!
It looks like there areno ferries to Egypt from Cyprus as well.

LEbanon > Israel > Egypt may not be possible.
Maybe somebody has an updated information about border crossing from Israel to Egypt??

There's a Tripoli in Lebanon too - no I am not considering Libya! :)

However I spoke to the Israeli National Office in London and they tell me there are absolutely no land crossings to/from Lebanon.

So my top ferry option at the moment is Lavrio in Greece to Haifa, Israel using Salamis Organisation - Home - €310 for the bike + Haifa customs expenses + I would have to fly Turkey-Israel - still seems it will be much cheaper than Greece-Egypt which is coming in around £1500 all-in.

There is a ferry that goes between Turkey (Iskenderun port) and Saudi Arabia (Duba port) but I'm not sure if you can travel via Saudi Arabia. The ferry name is Hatay RORO. Cost is around 250$ for the bike and 150$ for passengers.

Then from Duba port you take a ferry to Egypt.

Another option is that you ship your bike directly to Egypt. Either from Turkey or Greece to Alexandria, Egypt.

Thanks

When entering Israel they will ask you wether you want a stamp at your passport or at a piece of paper. To be 100% sure ask them in advance not to stamp your passport.
Another option could be a second passport
