Trip to Bulgaria from Ireland
 

A mate and I are heading to the HU mini meet in MotoCamp Bulgaria this July. We are taking about a week or so to get there and about 10 days to return.

He wants to visit Paris, God knows why, and then we head for Switzerland.

The outbound trip is now fairly organised but we want to come back a different way, so heading to the Balkans and Italy.

Neither of us has ever been that way, so looking for some sites that we must visit.

All of Balkan is well worth a visit. Switzerland, Austria etc is much more expensive. Former Eastern Europe has lots of history and fab places to visit. Avoid bigger cities is my advice. All big cities are at least fairly similar and takes just too much time to ride into and out of….. You’ll get lots and lots of tips regarding your trip home during the HU meeting. Talk to people. [emoji6][emoji120]

If you want to avoid a rip-off, don't take any ferry from RO to BG. Rather take a bridge, either in the west or on the E70 in the east.


Taking a ferry you have to pay on the RO side to enter ther port, then of course for the ferry, then the BG port authorities charge their port fee.


Besides that, the extremely unfriendly port officers in BG take ages to finish off the travellers :offtopic:

Never had any issues with river ferries before. Will keep an eye out though

Ive used the ferries many times. Never had a problem.

The ferries aren't the problem between RO and BG - the port authorities in BG charge port fees about 3x the ferry price :(

Balkans are definitely an undiscovered treasure. Paris is worth visiting at least once, but will be more expensive

I have been touring many times in France.
And I have been to Paris

But I would never think of combining these.
When I wanted to see Paris, I took a flight there.
And spent a week walking and using the metro.
Motorcycle in Paris ????

The Balkans is a great place to visit

As for southern Europe, if you can ride the B500 through the Black Forest, it’s a nice road. Then the northern shore of lake Konstanz is worth a ride
Bolzano in the Italian part of the alps was a nice place to visit.
All around the Berchtesgaden is great and with a visit to the Eagles Nest just to top it off
