Travelling from Iguazu Falls through Brazil to Columbia

Hi All,

We are trying to work out a rough route from Iguazu Falls, into Brazil, possibly to Rio then heading North up to Columbia. We have explored Boliva, Peru and Ecuador already.
Does anoyone have information on a "boat ride" from northern Brazil that ends up in Columbia..... or nearby. We thought we had read about a trip which takes 4-5 days.....does this exist and if not what we be the best possible route travelling 2 up on our GSA.....we would prefer sealed roads but if its Ripio then it is what it is
thanks David & Em

hey guys,

you can go by boat from brazil to columbia. starting in belem/santarem/manaus and than going to leticia. but you can not drive out from leticia.

also the the road to manaus b319 is a tuff ride. Not possible in the strong raining season and in each case a muddy fight.

the road to santarem i don´t know.

to belem you can take mostly paved roads.

going by bike to manaus further to venezuela and afterwards to colombia isn´t recommended at this time. it would be the only chance this way around.

best wishes from Brazil

you can cross into Peru via the state of Acre at Brasileia arriving in Puerto Maldonado.
The road over the andes is beautiful, but the way before is very boring.

I would suggest going to Columba and pass the Pantanal before, this amazing wildlife you will nowhere else. Also Bonito is very famous for the caves...

Than you can make your way through Bolivia to the Lake Titicaca...to Peru...Ecuador and Columbia.

By the way...Santa Catarina is beautiful...Have a look at Parque Nacional da Sera Geral, it is very close to Porto Alegre.

Good Ride.

I took the fantastic boat trip from Manaus to Belem through the Amazonia Rain forrest and then road through Venezuela to Columbia or the other way round: http://motorradtouren-suedamerika.de...uela-brasilien

The route from Manaus through Venezuela to Colombia (or from Belem through the Guianas, back into Brazil and up through Venezuela, which is the route I took), has been reported impossible for several years now. I have not heard about anyone who has crossed into Colombia from Venezuela with a vehicle during that time, but if there's a way I'd sure be interested.

I think that's the reason for the OP's query. To anyone contemplating, be wary of posts from people who've taken a given route at some point and assume it'll always be the same--things get better, but things also get worse.

Hope that's helpful.

Mark
